Well, I was kinda hoping that people on the mailing list could review
them in parallel -- although this patch series is dependent on my
previous one (from an inplementation standpoint), the concept it
implements (pushing option processing into the hooks) is independent.

It is also a big step towards being able to split the hooks off into
their own package.
