Well, I guess you can close this bug. I am using gentoo and it was with
xpdf-3.01. I try both the portage version that is patched against popler and
the orginal xpdf sources. 

I just try to remove 3.0.1 and to install xpdf-3.02 from the sources, and the
problem is gone, the graphics are just fine. So I will stress the gentoo devs
to bump the version.
