Using the attached PDF, there are many instances of the letter "A" not
appearing. Perhaps this is a problem with the document, but I am able to view
the same attached document under Windows using Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2.

I installed the latest Adobe Acrobat reader for Linux, and it DOES display
the missing character properly using the document in question.
