plot symbols used by R 2.7.2 (r-project.org)

Plot symbols used by R (http://www.r-project.org/) are properly rendered with
exception of the circle, where a "q" character is displayed instead.

I attache two files:
1. symbols.pdf PDF output of a simple R graph
2. symbols.png PNG output of the same R graph

The symbols in the PDF file should look like in the PNG file.
