Thanks for the report, i've commited a different and more simple fix [1], it's
what is done in all poppler code.

For the other places, it seems it's ok to do the call, or at least it does not
crash, and as it's not easy to think a way to "fix" the code when the font is
not there i'll leave it that way.

The abiword converter crashes but it's not because of this problem, will open a
separate bug
