I am having the blank page problem, having sampled 4 random JSTOR journal PDFs,
when using evince as downloaded from debian etch repos. I would suggest this is
generic to JSTOR. 

It is difficult to determine at what level the bug is occuring. Is there a
utility for poppler to generate static image renders, or can a
developer/alternate, who might have access to JSTOR be able to confirm or deny
this?]
