Several characters won't show up in the following document:

http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/xetex/latex/fontspec/fontspec.pdf

The missing characters are related to certain fonts, and they are throughout
the document. I can correctly see it with Adobe Reader, Evince fails on Ubuntu.
