I looked at the output more closely.  The original pdf has a black shadow
around the letters, while the ps produced with my patch does not show the
shadow.  It is hard to see because the shadow is small and the background is
very dark.  That means that this file is not even an example of a special case
where inverting the polarity will help.

Maybe for now, the best that I can do is to write a note in the trailer if
PSOutputDev::drawImageMask() finds state->getFillColorSpace()->getMode() ==
csPattern when producing level1sep output.  Then applications that read the eps
can know that it is incorrect and show a warning.
