Because qprinter doesn't support printing PDF files and we don't support
printing  to QPainter (which is what QPrinter needs). My suggestion is that you
send the pdf file directly to cups or convert it to ps with the ps converter
and send the ps file to cups.

If you are in a platform that doesn't know how to print pdf or ps files, your
other option is just printing the QImages you get to the QPrinter, but do it on
high resolution otherwise the results look crap
