About the bug it's hard what to say, i can perfectly see it here with my
freetype, and the error is pointing exactly to freetype being unable to create
the font, so it *seems* that freetype may be the problem, but then if you
update to my version you don't get it to work either, so i'm lost.

I'll leave the bug open but unless someone can shed more light not sure we can
do much.
