There are two use cases:

--disable-zlib means for some reason the user can't or doesn't want to link to
zlib. Maybe the installed zlib is broken.

--enable-zlib-uncompress means the user prefers zlib for uncompress

I can not see why the user would want to disable zlib for compression (that
works fine and has been used in other PS generating applications without any
issues for years), and enable zlib for uncompression that is known to not work
well.

yes

In that case just print an error and exit.
