Hello,

At last, poppler 0.5.4 is out. It looks to be a really good release,
a lot of bad bugs were fixed and we picked up a few minor features.
Here's the snippet from NEWS:

        - Automatically read in CJK encoding files if they're
installed (#2984, #7105, #7093). This works with the new
          poppler-data package.
        - Speed ups by Krzysztof Kowalczyk (#8112)
        - Patch from Dom Lachowicz to let the utils take input on stdin.
        - Bugs fixed (#8182, #4649, #7906, #8048, #7113, #4515, #3948,
          #7924, #7780, #7646, #6948, #7788, #7661, #7005)

Big thanks to Albert and Jeff who have been doing the majority of bug
fixes in this release, and of course everybody who have sent in bug
reports and fixes. A fix worth mentioning is the selection crasher -
we're now ref-counting the fonts used for redrawing the selection, so
a lot of crash-on-selection bugs should have been fixed.

This release introduces an optional dependency on the new poppler-data
package, co-released with poppler-0.5.4. The poppler-data package
installs encoding files into $datadir/poppler and on startup, poppler
will look for these files in that location. Before this change,
poppler would (and still does) parse /etc/xpdfrc and pick up the paths
to encoding files from that. With this, poppler can now install and
parse encodings independent of xpdf and /etc/xpdfrc and this closes a
number of long standing bugs about rendering of CJK documents.

With this release we're also branching for 0.5. Subsequent releases
in the 0.5 series will be bug or security fixes only, while HEAD
becomes 0.6. As mentioned earlier, hopefully we'll see some of
Krzysztof's performance patches and the SoC PDF form patches in this
series.

have fun,
