I think we are waiting for the write support patch which Julien is
working on right now. I also think we need another release, however
there are still some bugs that, in my opinion, are blockers for 0.6: 

Bug 7856 Transparent boxes are rendered opaque, making text unreadable

Bug 5589 image scaling with cairo is poor quality
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5589

We could maybe release another rc (poppler 0.5.99 rc2).
