[poppler] 0.8 release blockers?

Well, if noone works on it, probably its situation does not improve...
(Brad, still the idea of branch and work on in from scratch?)

In the home page of the apidox there is:
"Currently there two backends offered by the library, but only the Splash
engine works well and has been tested."
but probably is not clear enough...
No objections in disabling it for the release -- just #if 0'ing its code and
its entry in availableRenderBackends() should be enough.
