[poppler] Viewers + developer version of poppler?

Hello,

I am working on the developer version of libpoppler and I am wondering 
how to link the resulting library against any of the final viewer 
applications.

As far as I know, evince and okular both rely on libpoppler.

Is there a (simple) way to make them use the developer-version compiled 
library at runtime?
