For comparison, ghostscript handles it (the 3 is shown), including after
converting the pdf to postscript using poppler's pdftops or ghostscript's
own ps2writer device.

mupdf joins poppler in failing to display the 3, although git grep tells
me that mupdf doesn't look at the FontWeight???

For poppler, I agree with the suggested patch.
