I see your point, but isn't there some other way we could
accomplish the same thing? A cron job which automatically
did 'make install' to a known location? (I suppose best would
be to trigger one on commit; in theory that's easy to do).
I'm happy to set one up in ~jwhite on fdo, if that would help.
I guess what has my goat is that if I change 1 character in
xdg-utils-common.in, it creates a patch that touches a raft
of files; that will make it hard to understand what single patches do.
For that matter, if I simply download current cvs and build,
then do a 'cvs status', I have a raft of files that are different
than the current versions in CVS, because my box apparently builds
these scripts in a subtly different way than the way the last
persons box does it.
