Hmm, I think the DBus interface is a different matter. Any application or
application framework capable of using DBus will prefer using the standard
interface.
Once widespread, the xdg-utils script can be changed to do a DBus call
interally when it detects the presence of an implementing service.
Obviously the GNOME codepath can use it as soon as the GNOME developers feel
it is their recommended way
In the meanwhile, however, the script can allow at least basic screensaver
control across different versions of multiple desktops environments.
