I just tried in Ubuntu 7.04 again and, very embarrassingly, it works 
fine (after I fix my own wrapper script).  I must have made a mistake 
when I first "fixed" my own script, such that it looked like 
xdg-desktop-menu was failing. :(  So, in fact, we already *are* POSIX sh 
compliant. Nothing needs fixing except my head.
