[Portland] xdg-mime question

Hi all,

I can ask the system what the user wants to run when viewing a .diff file by 
using:
xdg-mime query default text/x-diff

On my system it returns:
kde-kdiff3.desktop

How can I now use the result to _start_ that configured application ?
