 When the PulseAudio server isn't operating correctly (when it is either
 dead, there are two of them, etc..), client programs like Amarok as well
 as the GNOME volume control (and by proxy, the Panel) are completely hung
 and never come back. Obviously this is an error condition but there should
 be some timeout, then an error code is returned instead of blocking ad
 infinitum.
