Comment:

 Further experiments (thanks Graeme Gregory) turn out it actually hangs in
 pthread_cond_wait. We then found out about HAVE_PTHREAD_PRIO_INHERIT --
 the usage of prioritised mutexes is obviously new in 0.9.8 and this does
 not seem to work as expected on this platform.

 Is there a way to revert to 0.9.6 behaviour?
