Comment:

 It appears not to be a bug in strtoul() nor a real bug in the pulseaudio
 daemon/cli-module, the problem is that using the telnet command to connect
 to the cli, telnet by default adds both linefeed and carriage return to
 the end of each line. Maybe this can be worked around by filtering out
 cr's?
