#223: PulseAudio as system-wide daemon: cannot enable Gnome sound events

The ESD compatibility layer runs PulseAudio as a user when called upon.
This is undesirable when a system-wide daemon is running. However, with
"Enable software sound mixing (ESD)" disabled in the Sound preferences of
Gnome, the system sound event options too gets greyed out.

Can the ESD compatibility layer perhaps check for a system-wide daemon and
act as a proxy for it instead of always launching PulseAudio as a user if
the user is not running one yet?
