 I cannot go beyond the ./bootstrap command:

 aclocal: configure.ac: 423: macro `AM_ICONV' not found in library

 I am using ubuntu 8.04 and I have installed some libraries to arrive to
 this blocking point.

 Here is the complete output. With automake 1.9 it goes further but
 eventually fails for the same issue.
