 Running Intrepid ibex  2.6.27-10-generic #1 SMP Fri Nov 21 12:00:22 UTC
 2008 i686 GNU/Linux.
 Pulse audio 09.10-ubuntu9.1 on a DELL M1330.
 The internal microphone cannot records at a very low volume.
 Remove pulse and everything is fine with ALSA.
 Also a bug in launchpad that effects many users:
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/275998
