 I have a wonderful USB microphone, the Samon C03U that I would like to use
 with Pulseaudio. Unforunately, it has this terribly strange bug. Simply
 put, recording does not work unless I have the sound preferences window
 open.

 This is not a a "default device" or anything like that type of bug -- I'm
 certain it's a sampling problem or something else. You see, when the sound
 preferences window is closed the applications are still recording -- only
 they are literally going in slow motion. It's a very strange effect -- the
 input is so choppy and slow that it's unusable, and this happens in both
 audio input in the Mumble program and also in Pulseaudio's input monitor.

 I don't know how to explain this further, other than that the instant I
 open the sound preferences window it springs to life and works properly.
 My only guess is that it queries the devices and something gets triggered
 to make it work properly. Very strange indeed.

 This happens in 0.9.15 and the latest test of 0.9.16
