(I'm not sure which component is to blame, so please correct this.)
I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10, which uses pulseaudio as the default
sound app. Unfortunately, I get no sound out of my PC speakers with pulse
audio. All applications I've tried don't work with pulseaudio (last.fm,
firefox, etc).
Alsa works fine on the same setup. I've verified it works by forcing
mplayer to use alsa with this command:
mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=0 10.\ Out\ of\ My\ Head.mp3
That plays music out of the PC speakers. These two commands don't work:
mplayer 10.\ Out\ of\ My\ Head.mp3
mplayer -ao pulse 10.\ Out\ of\ My\ Head.mp3
It seems to play the file, but no sound comes out. Output from mplayer is
attached, along with lspci and aplay -l.
I've tried with the default ubuntu 9.10 kernel, a vanilla 2.6.31.5 kernel
(which used to work before I upgraded from ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10), and the
2.6.32 kernel. Same results on all kernels. dmesg doesn't show anything
related to sound.
