#742: pulseaudio heap usage continues to grow

Reporter: planar3d at gmail.com | Owner: lennart
Type: defect | Status: new
Milestone: | Component: daemon
Resolution: | Keywords: memory leak

Comment(by lennart):
How exactly are you measuring memory consumption? Note that mesuring
memory consumption on Linux is a science of its own. Neither ps, not
gnome-system-monitor are suitable tools to figure out memory consumption.
Please read up on proper ways to determine memory use on Linux and report
back if you can provide better numbers.
Note that PA allocates a lot of address space on startup which is only
backed by memory on-demand. Also note that PA keeps a cache of event
sounds, which is empty on startup, but filled as you trigger event sounds.
