 I'm also experiencing problems with Skype that started as of 0.9.15.
 Downgrading to 0.9.14 always seems to solve the problems, and the
 pulseaudio configuration doesn't change between runs.  Now that the
 problem has occurred, starting skype on the console I also get the
 RtApiAlsa error message, after which the skype GUI will respond, but when
 asked to quit the program sits there and requires killing.  My guess is
 that this is due to the connected sound skype tries to play (but fails in
 this instance) when starting skype.  Generally after a sound notification
 Skype will freeze, taking up one full CPU/core, and requires kill -9 to
 stop.  This is running under Gentoo, with skype-2.0.0.72.
