Comment(by coling):

I apologise if I came across as arrogant, but I do have to deal with a lot
of people who harbour very ill informed opinions about various aspects of
Linux audio and sometimes I guess I don't articulate myself as best I
 could.

I've got a pretty good understanding of both the PulseAudio and the Phonon
source and their use cases and I personally wouldn't hold them in a
position to be vaguely comparable. The address very different spaces in
the Linux audio stack and I could happily inform you of why there is not
even any point in trying to discuss a comparison if you want although I
appreciate that could go on for a while :p

The doubts expressed regarding PA usually result from a poor experience at
the distro level (certain very popular distros that will remain nameless
have had a poor track record with understanding and integrating PA
properly, which has lead to such backlashes - this is thankfully changing
now). Additionally, the KDE communities' use of Xine as a preferred Phonon
backend, which happens to have a particularly poor implementation of a
pulse output plugin, has not lead to great opinions of PulseAudio
generally. For both these reasons and due to bugs in several ALSA level
drivers relating to the bleeding edge features that PulseAudio takes
advantage off, PA has had some bad publicity, but really this is just the
result of mis-information and people not caring enough about such topics
to find out the real facts before blaming the easiest candidate.

I'm not saying that pulse is the most amazing awesome thing ever with no
bugs or problems, but it's certainly the best hope we have of a sane audio
stack on Linux and those who care to take the time to research and
 understand such things generally agree.

Again I apologise if I was arrogant before and I would encourage you to
write up more bug reports. In this case the bug report is genuinely
invalid and as stated before (albeit perhaps without due care and
attention) the correct fix is to integrate phonon with PA properly, which
 I've been doing.

Take care and all the best.
