 Supporting "front:" properly would be at least a good first step.
 Supporting "spdif:" should be doable as well.

 May the different flavours of ICE cards be duistingished by their PCI
 subsys id?

 If the channel order of the multichannel streams is not defined it would
 be useful to introduce alsa device strings that fix the channel number at
 least: "fourch:xxx", "sixch:xxx" or so might make sense? If we had that we
 could make use of that and offer the user different channel orders to
 drive his ICE card with.
