 @ coling: thank you very much for your help. After what I've learned, I
 agree it's most likely an avahi issue, or some broken config in ubuntu
 (however I have these issues on two different machines, running on jaunty
 or karmic). By the way, ipv6 was always deactivated (by default).

 @ throughnothing: did you find out anything? Maybe it's related to
 [https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/avahi/+bug/116984 #116984], a
 rather antique but still unsolved issue reported on launchpad?
