#910: changing volume does not affect ALSA volume(s)

I have a "C-Media Electronics, Inc. CM106 Like Sound Device" (usb id
0d8c:0102) cheapo usb 5.1 audio device.

I can change the volume in pavucontrol, but I suspect it's using software
emulation, because it does not change the volume levels as reported by
 alsamixer.

Worse, in pavucontrol, when I click on "Port > Analog Output" (the other
option is "Analog Speaker", not sure what the difference is supposed to
be) pulse will set the ALSA volume of all 6 channels (there is no master
control) to the lowest possible value (-36.94 dB; max is 0 dB). There is
no way of re-gaining the volume other than moving it up manually again in
 alsamixer.

I'm running pulseaudio 0.9.22 from Debian unstable.
