Comment:

 I have the same problem as mentioned initially.  On starting pulseaudio,
 the connection is refused.  I have tried to remove the ~/.pulse/* files,
 that does not fix the issue.

 I'm using Ubuntu 11.04, pulse .9.21-63.

 Not sure how to debug from here.  But it is problematic.
