 Thinking about it more, it would be very useful to see the startup debug
 from PA when it does it's probing.

 Can you do the following:

  1. Ensure no sill apps are running (this basically means kill your web
 browser, especially any flash plugins).
  2. echo "autospawn=no" >>~/.pulse/client.conf
  3. pulseaudio -k
  4. pulseaudio -vvvvv

 Then post (attach) the output of that here.

 It should be quite a lot of output, again, feel free to drop by IRC for
 help if this doesn't work for you.

 After you are done you can edit and remove the autospawn=no line form your
 ~/.pulse/client.conf file (or remove the file completely if it's the only
 entry in the file).
