This reminds me, exactly how is the client side supposed to acquire and
exchange authentication data, when the use of a remote sink is enabled via
paprefs? 

That endless series of "protocol-native.c: Denied access to client with invalid
authorization data." messages in the remote sink's PA log suggests a problem
with how the client authenticates when a native remote sink is selected via
GNOME's audio control applet.

Again, ideas on how to debug what goes wrong with this particular aspect would
be welcome.
