To be able to rename the channels of a sound card (Front Left, Center etc) when
the names are not valid for the specific setup (for example I have a 7.1 amp
and speakers in the study, living, kitchen etc and have the channels named
accordingly).

<tanuk_> Rather than allowing channel renaming, this will probably be
implemented by splitting the underlying device into multiple virtual devices.
