Main, could you test if muting the Speaker mixer element has any effect when
using digital output? I don't have hardware to test the digital output myself.

I wrote a patch that should fix this bug. Instead of using two profiles for
selecting between analog and digital, I decided to just disable hardware volume
control in both modes, because requiring the user to select the profile
manually wouldn't really be very user-friendly.

I'll attach the patch here in case you want to try it, but I won't yet send it
to the mailing list, because first I want to change things so that sinks
default to 30% instead of 100% volume. 100% as the default volume becomes a
problem when disabling hardware volume, because previously the alsa sink
overrode the default volume for this card with the current value of the Speaker
volume element, which alsa probably sets to something sensible by default, but
with my patch PulseAudio always sets Speaker to 100% to ensure full volume
range when using software volume.
