This is not strictly related, but even for passthrough, we don't open the
device for a different number of channels from the profile (so you need to be
on stereo mode for our current passthrough to work). I suspect the two issues
would be unrelated, since we might need to change that while adding
DTS-HD/Dolby TrueHD support with passthrough.
