Could this patch (or functional fix) be backported to PulseAudio 8.0?

The current long-term support version of Ubuntu (16.04.1 LTS) has adopted
PulseAudio 8.0 and is unlikely to switch to PulseAudio 9.0 per long-term
support policy.

The current auto-routing experience is sub-optimal for many Ubuntu users
(including myself).
