I haven't tried Ubuntu GNOME yet but I am trying out another KDE distro and
that is the KDE Neon Dev Stable distro and here I experience no speed up even
using soxr-vhq. "Just" a little crackling when changing the programs volume
fader both using pavucontrol and KDE's own volume settings.

It looks like it might be an OpenMandriva Lx 3 issue but I will now try Ubuntu
GNOME 17.04 too.
