<pre>If you put "flat-volumes = no" to ~/.pulse/config/daemon.conf, I think the
stream volume should have the expected effect. I don't know why the volume
jumps temporarily to a low level in your experiment, but with flat volumes
enabled the stream volume is mostly implemented in hardware, which doesn't work
with your sound card.</pre>
