I don't know this translation stuff well either, but here are some tips: if you
run "make pulseaudio.pot" in the po directory, you'll get the pot file.
msgmerge seems to be a program for taking old translations from a po file and
creating a new po file based on the up-to-date pot file.
I'd like to put a TRANSLATORS_README.txt file in the po directory with some
basic instructions. Can you confirm that this workflow works:
Run "make pulseaudio.pot".
Run "msgmerge fr.po pulseaudio.pot".
Edit fr.po to add new translations or improve the old ones.
Does the msgmerge command need any options? For example, "--update" and
"--backup" seem potentially useful.
Do you prefer me to apply your current translation, or should I wait for a new
version?
