<pre>Providing a small update to this: The mpv option --pulse-latency-hacks=yes,
which disables interpolation/smoothing and does it “manually” inside mpv, works
around this issue for me. So it's no longer a huge priority. (Although that
option is off by default, so other users may still be affected by this bug)</pre>
