[pulseaudio-discuss] Gnome volume applet

I'm running Ubuntu Gutsy with LTSP-5. I've been trying to track this
problem down for quite a while on the ltsp lists.

Pulse Audio works on the LTSP clients. And I can use pavucontrol to
control the volume level.

I've been under the impression that I should also be able to use the
Gnome volume applet. Is this true?

The applet's preferences only show ALSA and OSS mixer, and does not
alter the volume for either. Should there also be a listing for
Pulse?

Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with Pulse Audio so I'm looking
for tips where to start debugging.

$ cat .asoundrc.asoundconf
# ALSA library configuration file managed by asoundconf(1).
#
# MANUAL CHANGES TO THIS FILE WILL BE OVERWRITTEN!
#
# Manual changes to the ALSA library configuration should be
implemented
# by editing the ~/.asoundrc file, not by editing this file.
pcm.!default { type pulse }
ctl.!default { type pulse }
