We did actually, as I wrongly thought my i810 sound card supported
44.1kHz ... this is solved I guess.

If other folks find this thread : edit daemon.conf and change the
"resampling-method" setting to "trivial" or "src-linear", both of which
were much faster on my laptop. Sound quality should be lower but I
couldn't tell on my laptop speakers :)
