Using jack with the PulseAudio ALSA plugin is not a good idea because it
would likely cause timing problems in jackd (and it doesn't work anyway, as
you found out). What you really want to do is start jackd running with
direct access to the alsa hardware and have PulseAudio input/output to jackd
via module-jack-sink/-source. This is known to work very well and provides
nearly all the same functionality.
