Which PulseAudio version is this? Ubuntu version numbers are meaningless to
me, as I am not an Ubuntu guy, I don't follow Ubuntu releases and have
no clue which version they ship in which release.

This is probably some ALSA driver problem, but it is hard to
tell. Older versions of PA didn't log which hw parameter setting is
the one that actually failed, hence it is a bit hard to find out
what's really going wrong here, unless you'd be willing to use gdb to
single step through that part of the code. Would you?
