I was just coming back to this thread to see if the userdata was null 
when eol < 0 (which may have been by design but I doubt it), but then 
spotted that there was no eol! But you beat me to the actual solution :)

FWIW I believe the next Ubuntu will be shipping 0.9.19, but I'm not an 
Ubuntu guy so take this as a vague "maybe"... :p
